I met someone recently who told me that they had a great network. As we continued to speak, it became evident to me that they didn’t really know what a having great network meant.
这人说自己手机上有50个电话,500多个领英联系人,还在行业活动中定期会见新朋友。这些话我耳熟能详,也是我听人提起“我的人脉很广”时,总会更进一步交流的原因。
The person told me they had 50 numbers in their mobile phone, over 500 LinkedIn connections and regularly met new people at industry events. I hear this a lot, and it’s the reason why I always dig deeper when someone says “I have a great network”.
良好的人脉意味着不仅认识业内关键人物,更与他们建立起互相信赖的关系。它意味着,当你给他们打电话,他们总会愿意接,并乐意为你提供任何帮助。也许是讨论最新行业进展,答应临时活动邀请,或最重要的是,为你做证明和推荐,并助力你的事业发展。这些值得信赖的人,才组成了良好的人脉,我喜欢称之为你的人脉提升者。
A great network to me means not just knowing key people in your industry, but having a trusted relationship with them. This relationship means calling someone, and when they see it is you ringing, they want to pick up every time and are willing to help you with whatever you might need. It could be discussing the latest industry updates, saying yes to a last minute invite to an event or most importantly, helping you with introductions, leads and referrals that will expand your business. It’s these trusted contacts that make up a great network and I like to call them your network promoters.

The first step to cultivating a network promoter is to make initial contact. Here’s how I do it:
个性化——尽量仔细地研究他们的背景,让你的接触方式更个性化
Personalise- Do your research, and understand their background as best you can to personalise your approach.
不要节外生枝——第一次见面除安排会谈以外,不带其它目的
Aim for the right outcome- Never approach the first contact with any other aim than arranging a face-to-face meeting.
差异化——清楚地表达你的独特价值主张,让他们看到你的与众不同之处,以及你如何为他们带来价值。这一点十分重要。
Differentiate - Clearly communicate your unique value proposition so they can see how you are different, what’s in it for them and how you will add value to them. This is very important.
让计划成为现实——点燃他们的兴趣后,请灵活安排自己的时间,并尽快安排会面。
Make it happen- Once you gain interest, meet them as soon as possible and be flexible with your own schedule.
面对面谈话是你给他们留下印象,取得他们信任的机会。将你自己定位为行业领袖,当他们需要完成与你的工作相关的任何事情时,会第一个打电话联系你。
This face-to-face meeting is your chance to impress and to begin gaining their trust. Position yourself as a leader in your field so that you become the first person they call if they need anything related to what you do.
开拓人脉并非一蹴而就。但是,如果你积极主动,遇到机会时能做出成绩,每次都能提供价值,就能很快拓展人脉!
Developing a great network isn’t something that happens overnight. However, it can happen quickly if you are proactive, deliver results when given the opportunity and add value every time!
